STR Virtual Symposium: Theory of the Firm and Competitive Advantage in Ecosystems
In the past few years, the research on ecosystems and related concepts has burgeoned. In this virtual symposium we gather a panel of renowned scholars to discuss how the ecosystem framework can help us address some of the core strategy issues:
How do ecosystems differ from other forms of organization, such as value chains, markets, alliances?
How are the intertwined value creation and value capture processes affecting the way firms achieve competitive advantage in ecosystems?
How does the ecosystem lens affect the way we think about firms’ boundaries?
The goal of the symposium is to highlight what is different about the topics of competitive advantage and theory of the firm in ecosystems, and how studying these topics in ecosystems might benefit the broader strategy field.
Panelists:
Olivier Chatain (HEC),
Rahul Kapoor (Wharton ),
PK Toh (University of Texas at Austin),
Brian Wu (Michigan Ross)
Discussant: Marvin Lieberman (UCLA Anderson)
Organizers: Cameron Miller (Syracuse University) and Elena Plaksenkova (Ohio State University).
